CEO & Founder

Jason’s a creative problem solver at heart. He takes complex data and analytic concepts and simplifies these into engaging and meaningful stories to drive better business decisions for our clients. He has led DOT from its genesis into a flourishing and fast-growing company.

Dr. Tamsyn Hilder

Director of Products

Tamsyn leads our Products team who have built the Community Compass, Sky TV, Turn Up and Us platforms. With her data science and machine learning expertise, Tamsyn has been instrumental in bringing DOT’s products to market. Tamsyn is a leading data scientist, coder (R, Python and SQL) and Power BI exponent. Tamsyn has a PhD in Applied Mathematics.

Dr. Paul Bracewell

COO, CAO & Founder

Paul’s strength is to hear the problems faced by business leaders and decision-makers in their own words and link that to potential data sources and approaches to find solutions. The genesis of DOT’s products arise from Paul’s award winning doctoral research into rating systems and commercial experiences in fraud detection, credit risk and evaluating sports performance.

Justin Lester

Director of Government

Justin leads our Government services and liaison, with a primary focus on growing our Community Compass, Dynamic Carbon Tracker and Bizmomento products, and public sector consulting. Justin is a trained lawyer with significant Government experience and an extensive sector network across New Zealand. Justin has an LLM from Heidelberg University, Germany.

Dr. Holly Trowland

Director of Consulting

Holly leads our consulting team and specialises in solving complex data problems for a wide range of private and public sector clients. Holly has significant experience in all aspects of data science, coding (R and Python), Microsoft Power BI and is an accredited IDI researcher. Holly has a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Sydney.

Mike Brough

Partner Consulting

Mike bridges the worlds of digital, data and marketing based on his experience as an Executive at Accenture, Kiwibank and NZ Post. Mike has an extensive background in business transformation, customer experience and digital projects.

Matt West

Partner, PR, Finance, Consulting

Matt is spread across companies with the majority of his time invested in EightyOne, delivering award winning advertising and design solutions. He builds strong relationships with clients and his design and advertising lens to projects is an asset to DOT.

Charlie Lee

Head of Product Engagement

Charlie oversees the design team and delivery of DOT's products to ensure data is accessible, meaningful and easily understood. Charlie is the glue that keeps DOT humming, bridging the world between data and strategy beautifully.

Flynn Owen

Head of Product Data Science

Flynn leads the team of data scientists within DOT's Product team. With experience in software and data science companies alike, he combines analytical and engineering skills to ensure that DOTs products are as accurate as they are well-built.

Jenny Stevenson

Head of Data Engineering

Jenny leads the team of data engineers and is responsible for the backend of DOT’s products. She has been with DOT since its early days and has extensive experience in banking, utilities and government agencies. Jenny has a bachelor in Computer Science.

Pavel Zamyatin

Head of Infrastructure and Security

Pavel leads our Infrastructure and Security team, ensuring all systems and DOT’s Portal are humming. He has wide-ranging experience in Systems Administration, Cloud Architecture, and Programming. With more than 15 years of IT experience, you can rest assured your data is in safe hands.

Dr. Alison Mant-Melville

Senior Data Scientist

Alison leads consulting data science projects. She transforms organisations with the insights and algorithms she creates using R, python, SQL and PowerBI. Her PhD is in human evolution and archaeological statistics.

Dr. Anne-Helene Sharp

Analytics Manager

Anne-Helene is an analytics manager for the consulting team. She has experience in business intelligence (BI), BI architecture, SQL, ETL and reporting tools (MicroStrategy and Power BI), to help businesses make the most of their data. She has a PhD in materials science from Te Herenga Waka – VUW.

Kateryna Petrova

Product Manager

Kateryna brings a wealth of highly-commended international and domestic expertise to her role as Product Manager, and she will help guide the continuing evolution of our Turn Up, Community Compass, Bizmomento, and Us data products. She has a Masters Degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Economics from the Donetsk National Technical University.

Dr. Elena Lark

Senior Data Scientist

Elena is experienced in data analysis, mathematical modelling and strategic consulting. She has worked on building solutions and finding insights for a wide range of subject matter areas and clients.

Director of Sales - Auckland

About us

We are looking for an experienced sales manager to grow our Auckland practice.

About the role

We are a team of 30 people, who have been fortunate enough to achieve success in the Wellington market on the back of good relationships and delivering on our promises. You will be energised by the opportunity to set up a sales process and grow our Auckland footprint.

Commencing as an individual sales role, over time you will have the opportunity to hire and grow the Auckland sales team.

Key responsibilities:
  • Supporting business development and marketing activities within Auckland. Including: connecting DOT capability to client needs to create relevant customer opportunity positioning that delivers material client business impact; local representation at relevant industry forums and events;
  • Growing a quality pipeline of opportunities, with a particular focus on enterprise businesses in retail, insurance, media, utilities, telecommunications, automotive and property;
  • Closing new business to meet agreed sales targets.
Required attributes:
  • Proven enterprise business development and sales experience.
  • Broad and mature network across the Auckland enterprise market that you can activate. Experienced in sales of data and analytics products and services to enterprise clients.
  • Proven skills in identifying and positioning industry specific value propositions to clients created through the application of data and analytics.
  • Individual contributor experience.
  • Comfortable in hiring and building a team as your Auckland practice grows.

Desired attributes:
  • Comfortable working across the sales cycle. Initially, across business development, lead generation and closing.
  • A track record of getting results. You will be able to point to previous roles where you’ve repeatedly outperformed your quota.

Systems Engineer

About the role

A key role of the Infrastructure team is to ensure that DOT's systems are robust, reliable and well maintained. As a System Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and improving the reliability, stability, and security of our systems and network infrastructure, ensuring the smooth and efficient deployment of applications.
The successful candidate will work across both the Product team and Consulting team to provide infrastructure support. In addition, as part of the wider Product team you will also be responsible for ensuring that Business As Usual (BAU) tasks complete successfully, notifying relevant team leads when this is not the case.

Key skills and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field or 3-4 years of experience in systems engineering or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with MacOS, Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (Proxmox, etc)
  • Good understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc)
  • Familiarity with basic security principles (firewalls, access control, etc)
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to work with initiative
  • Familiarly with different types of databases and able to administer and maintain them
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure

About the role

As DOT’s Head of Operations you play a critical role in overseeing and optimising the operational functions of our data business. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless execution of day-to-day operations, enhancing operational efficiency, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Working with clients and collaborating closely with our team of data scientists, data engineers and creatives, day to day you’ll be:

  • Delivering projects that help clients extract value from data to deliver meaningful solutions
  • Leading consulting projects from start to finish. This includes helping design the approach, developing the methodologies, conducting the analytics, and communicating the results
  • Identifying the story from the data
  • Helping clients develop innovative approaches using data science

About you

You’re open-minded, love getting stuck in to explore why and so what and so what next questions. You make the complex simple and relatable. 

We’ll be looking to see your:

  • Ability to think outside the square
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant technical field (for example maths, stats, data science, engineering and/or computer science)
  • Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches, ideally using an analytics tool, preferably R or Python (SAS also useful)
  • Familiarity with relational databases and SQL
  • Comfort manipulating and analysing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources
  • Comfort working in ambiguity
